Adult Classes
Over the past decade, Synetic has carved out a name for itself as one of the most innovative performance groups in the DC Metropolitan area, utilizing dance, mime, acrobatics, fight choreography and more to create a unique and invigorating style of visual storytelling.
In addition to our acting ensemble, Synetic offers a variety of programs for children and teens as well as touring productions for schools. We are thrilled to announce our new line-up of physical theater classes and intensives for the actor and for the beginner!

CURRENT CLASS OFFERINGS:
Synetic Fitness (drop-in or enrollment)
Monday 6:30PM – 7:30pm
Instructor: Kathryn Connors
Exercise through Synetic technique! No matter what your fitness level, this workout is for you! You’ll strengthen your muscles and core, burn calories, increase your endurance, flexibility and agility with this full body Synetic workout. Come experience the challenge and excitement this class has to offer on either an enrollment or drop-in basis.
Synetic I
Monday 7:30pm –9pm
Instructor: Ryan Sellers
An introduction to Synetic technique open to all levels of experience. Perfect for those with theater, acting or stage movement experience.
Synetic II: Acting in Physical Theater
Dates: March 3-31, 2012. Saturdays, 11am – 1pm
Instructor: Carol Cadby
An emotionally charged and fast paced intermediate level course for those wishing to further pursue Synetic training. The class will focus on acting technique and discovering the internal motivations for physical movement. Students will learn how to infuse their movement style with specific and truthful intentions. This class is meant for those who have completed introductory level courses or summer training. For non-Synetic students this is an audition-only class.
MEET OUR TEACHERS:
Ryan Sellers
Ryan Sellers (Resident Teaching Artist for Teens and Adults) has been a company member with Synetic for 5 years and taught for Synetic for four years. In that time Ryan has directed three productions for Education and Family Programs including: Teen A Midsummer Night's Dream, Teen Romeo and Juliet and his original work Cowardly Christopher Finds his Courage which premiered at Wolf Trap's Theater in the Woods, and has been touring to local schools for the past two years. As a performer Ryan has been in numerous Synetic productions, some of which include his performances of Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew (upcoming), Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, and Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream. As the Resident Teaching Artist for Teen and Adult programs Ryan creates the curriculum for all classes and student productions at Synetic Theater.
Carol Cadby
Carol Cadby has been teaching acting and directing for more than 25 years and currently teaches at George Mason University, Signature Theatre and Arlington Public Schools. Along with a B.A. from Grinnell College and an M.A.I.S. from George Mason University, she studied with renowned acting teachers, Uta Hagen and Herbert Bergof and is trained in Viewpoints, Laban Movement and Meisner Acting Technique. She was also a professional stage and film actor (S.A.G., A.F.T.R.A., S.E.G., A.E.A. eligible) for ten years based in Miami, Florida. Her professional activities include Arts Commissioner for Arlington County, board member of Educational Theatre Company and the Theatre Arts Lead Teacher and a Mentor Teacher for Arlington Public Schools.
Carol has received numerous directing and teaching awards including representing Virginia at the 2010 Southeastern Theatre Conference with her production of Nora’s Lost, receiving a Wolftrap Scholarship for Performing Arts Teachers (2008-09), an Elizabeth Campbell Award for Excellence in the Arts from the American Association of University Women (2009), twenty Virginia Governor School Presidential Citations for Outstanding Educator (1998-2012), two Arts Teacher Recognition Awards from the Educational Theatre Association (2001) and an Outstanding Theatre Program Award from the Educational Theatre Association (2001).
