Georgi Alexi-Meskhishvili, Resident Set and Costume Design
Georgi Alexi-Meskhishvili has been the chief designer for both the Rustaveli Drama Theatre and The National Opera in Tbilisi, Georgia since 1975. He has created sets and costumes for hundreds of performances around the world. His designs have been seen on the stages of The Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre, Venice’s La Fenice, Bologna’s Teatro Comunale, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, Teatro San Martin of Buenos Aires, The Kirov Opera, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Le Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, National Theater Tel-Aviv, Shakespeare Theatre Company and Synetic Theater. He is a visiting professor of Stage Design at Dartmouth College since 1996 and is a recipient of Dean of Faculty Teaching Award. During the off term he teaches free Master Classes in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. In addition to his design work, Alexi-Meskhishvili is a recognized artist, his painting and collages has been displayed in the numerous galleries, museums and private collections around the world.
