Ben Cunis, Resident Fight Choreographer and Actor Training Program

Ben Cunis has worked at Synetic Theater since 2007, when he performed in Macbeth in the role of Macduff. He has since performed in several shows a year, as well as serving as Fight Choreographer for over a dozen Synetic productions.

He has received Helen Hayes Awards as a part of the Outstanding Ensembles of Hamlet...the Rest is Silence (2007 production) and Romeo and Juliet (2008). He has been nominated twice alongside Irina Tsikurishvili for Outstanding Choreography – in 2010 for Dracula and in 2011 for King Arthur. He has served as co-adaptor for King Lear, King Arthur, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dante and Carmen, and as Assistant Director for the Teen Midsummer program, as well as the main-stage productions Othello and King Arthur. In 2007, he had his directorial debut with the short play Last Tango with Rosie for Synetic's Blackout series, and 2012 marks his first full length production with Synetic, Genesis Reboot.

Ben has been an active instructor in Synetic's Adult Physical Theater class program and frequently leads the intensive Company Training sessions for Synetic Company Members, as well as managing Synetic's audition and company membership process. Ben was also Director of Development at Synetic from 2007 to 2010. He received his BA in Drama from Catholic University and continues to train in parkour, gymnastics, dance and drama around the DC area.
